Bio
Jacob W. Tomory is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Cleveland State University College of Law where he teaches Administrative Law, Criminal Law, and courses focused on legal interpretation. Professor Tomory’s research focuses on the interpretation of statutes and other legal documents, with particular emphasis on how courts do and should account for the understandings of ordinary readers rather than legal professionals when interpreting such documents.
Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Tomory clerked for the Honorable Cindy K. Chung on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Honorable Robert Kirsch on the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. He also worked as an associate at Covington and Burling LLP in Washington, D.C.
Professor Tomory earned his law degree from Yale Law School and his undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University.
