From the Deans' Suite - 5/14/26 - Celebrating the Strength of Our Alumni
One of the great strengths of CSU Law is our alumni—and nowhere is that more evident than in the work of the Cleveland State University College of Law Alumni Association (CSULAA). This remarkable group of leaders meets monthly out of commitment to one another and to this law school. They organize gatherings that build community, service activities that reflect our mission, and continuing education opportunities that support lifelong learning. Most importantly, they remain deeply engaged with our students and invested in the future of CSU Law.
The impact of the CSULAA is tangible. Through the Alumni Association’s mentorship program, incoming students are paired with attorney mentors who guide, encourage, and help open doors as they begin their legal careers. Alumni volunteers are present throughout the life of the law school—supporting events, mentoring students, and strengthening connections across generations of CSU Law graduates.
Each year, that commitment comes to life through the Annual Recognition Lunch. This is far more than an awards event. It is an opportunity for our alumni community to come together and celebrate the accomplishments, integrity, and service of fellow graduates. It is a powerful reminder of what it means to be part of this profession—and part of CSU Law.
The event also directly supports our students by raising scholarship funds that help make a CSU Law education possible.
This year, we are proud to honor two exceptional alumni: Jamie R. Lebovitz ’82 and Stephen E. Walters ’83.
Jamie Lebovitz has built a distinguished career as one of Ohio’s leading trial attorneys in aviation, railroad, and trucking disaster litigation. A senior partner at Nurenberg Paris Heller & McCarthy, he has spent more than four decades representing individuals and families in complex personal injury and wrongful death cases. Nationally recognized for his work in aviation law, Jamie has served in leadership roles in major transportation disaster litigation and has earned recognition from Best Lawyers in America and Ohio Super Lawyers.
Stephen Walters is a highly respected trial attorney and legal leader whose career helped shape one of the region’s most prominent law firms. During his tenure as President and Managing Partner of Reminger Co., LPA, the firm expanded significantly across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. With more than 40 years of experience in medical malpractice and healthcare defense litigation, Steve has tried more than 130 cases to verdict and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Ohio Super Lawyers, and the CSU Law Hall of Fame.
These honorees exemplify the excellence, leadership, and service that define CSU Law graduates.
The Annual Recognition Lunch is a celebration, but it is also a reflection of who we are: a community that supports one another, invests in future generations, and remains connected long after graduation.

Finally, we extend a special thank you to John Grauer ’12 for his outstanding leadership of the Alumni Association this year. He has been a wonderful partner to the law school, and his commitment to CSU Law and our alumni community is evident in all the Association has accomplished.
Warmly,
Carolyn and Brian
