Monday Morning Message 10.21.24 Democracy's Best Defense

"We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate." - Thomas Jefferson

Election Day is in just 14 days. See 2024 Presidential Election Countdown Clock

As we approach November 5, the good news is that our elections have never been more secure and trustworthy.

See Election Systems Have Never Been More Secure; Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Election Integrity Center

The bad news is that there has never been more deliberate disinformation about alleged voter fraud designed to undermine confidence in our democracy and our election system. False claims of fraud after the November 2020 election and in advance of the November 2024 election are fueling attempts to interfere with the independent, nonpartisan counting of votes and certification of election results.‌ ‌

See 7 Facts About Voting — and Myths Being Spread About Them | Brennan Center for Justice

That’s why we are hosting an important forum on election integrity this Wednesday, October 23, 9am-4:30pm, sponsored by our outstanding CSU|LAW Alumni Association. Register here: Vote 2024: Election Law and Integrity in Ohio.  See below for more details.

Please also join us on Friday, October 25, 9am-3:30pm for the Cleveland State Law Review Symposium: Learn Law. Live Justice.  The Symposium will explore the role justice plays in education, criminal justice, and democracy.  Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly ’91 is the keynote speaker.

We believe that informed citizens are democracy’s best defense.
