at the Cleveland State University Foundation
Purpose: The law firm of Jackson Lewis LLP, a 700 lawyer national law firm specializing in labor and employment law, established the annual Jackson Lewis LLP Labor and Employment Scholarship Fund and Law Prize Fund to provide a $4,000 scholarship and $1,000 law prize to two students enrolled in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. Per this revised agreement, the Scholarship Fund and Law Prize Fund will be merged into one scholarship, named the Jackson Lewis Labor and Employment Law Scholarship (Scholarship).
Guidelines: The Jackson Lewis Scholarship will be awarded to one second-year, full-time law student or one second or third-year, part-time student who demonstrates an interest in labor and employment law and maintains a good academic record. The Jackson Lewis Scholar will be seriously considered for a summer or winter clerkship at Jackson Lewis and, if offered such a position, the student needs to be available to accept. While the firm will consider students of all backgrounds, the firm is particularly interested in minority or economically disadvantaged candidates for this scholarship.
Each fall, the College of Law will publicize this opportunity to the student body, with particular outreach to minority students, and initiate the application process. Members of the Labor and Employment faculty at C|M|LAW and the law school’s financial aid administrator will select three finalists for interviews by Jackson Lewis. Final candidate selection will be determined by consensus by representatives from C|M|LAW and Jackson Lewis. Following selection of the scholar, Jackson Lewis will make a final decision as to whether a clerkship will be offered.
If a student meeting the criteria above does not present in a given year, then awarding of the Scholarship is at the discretion of Jackson Lewis.
