Description

Prerequisites: RCC. The Pardon, Clemency, and Expungement Clinic offers students an opportunity to represent clients seeking an expungement of a prior conviction or seeking pardon or clemency from the Ohio governor through the Governor's Expedited Pardon Project. Students will work under the direct supervision of a clinical faculty member, and in coordination with community legal organizations. Students will perform legal representation to individuals in the community including the following: community outreach to identify potential clients; client interviewing and screening for eligibility for pardon, clemency, and/or expungement; gathering criminal history and other supporting evidence; preparing and drafting expungement motions and/or petitions for pardon or clemency; and representing clients at expungement hearings (before a local court) or in pardon/clemency hearings (before the Ohio Parole Board). The Clinic will include a one-hour per week classroom component, regular meetings on individual case matters being performed by students, and client work. The Clinic may also include several community outreach events that may be scheduled on Saturdays
