The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) recent international survey of academic privacy programs listed Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law's Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Certificate as one of only five such programs offered by a U.S. law school. The information is presented in IAPP’s inaugural issue of “Privacy and Data Protection in Academia, A Global Guide to Curricula

This recognition comes on the heels of the IAPP's announcement that CSU Cleveland-Marshall was selected as one of 33 academic institutions across the world participating in the Westin Privacy Scholar Award Program.

"IAPP's survey confirms Cleveland-Marshall's elite position as one of only a handful of law schools to offer a comprehensive certificate program in data security and privacy," said Professor Brian Ray, who co-founded and directs the Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection

In addition to an online Master of Legal Studies in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, Cleveland-Marshall offers a certificate for law students and an interdisciplinary graduate certificate in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy.

Ray further emphasized that Cleveland-Marshall and Cleveland State are “unique in the extent to which our programs integrate legal, technical and business aspects of cybersecurity. Law faculty partner with computer science and business faculty to offer truly transdisciplinary courses, which is rare in most universities.”

“Through Professor Ray’s leadership and innovative University collaboration, CSU C|M|LAW is providing exceptional legal education in the increasingly critical field of cybersecurity,” said CSU Cleveland-Marshall Dean Lee Fisher.

Recognizing CSU C|M|LAW’s innovative partnerships, the National Science Foundation recently awarded a team of CSU computer science, law and education faculty, including Ray, a three-year, $400,000 grant to develop a curriculum to train law and engineering students to work together to respond to common cyber attacks, including ransomware.
