“It was a pleasure meeting you at the University of Dayton’s law fair. I really appreciated you taking the time to discuss the welcoming community of Cleveland State University College of Law and for giving me advice about finding the right fit in a law school. I will be applying to the program in November.” - Prospective Student
Each fall, Assistant Dean for J.D. Admissions Barbara Andelman and Assistant Director of J.D. Admissions John Bell hit the road, recruiting the next generation of lawyer-leaders. They campaign hard to recruit applicants and convey the unique value of a CSU|LAW education, including our secret sauce.
Over the past two months, they have represented CSU|LAW at 16 colleges, universities, and regional law school forums – all in-person. In addition, they expanded our reach through virtual recruitment events that included students from another 15 colleges and universities. Thanks also to Associate Dean Carolyn Broering-Jacobs who participated in-person at one of the regional forums.
So what’s our secret sauce? There are many reasons to enroll at Cleveland State University College of Law, but if we have a secret sauce, it’s our amazing alumni network.
You can’t create genuine loyalty and engagement after a student graduates. The extraordinary loyalty and engagement of our alumni stems from one thing - having a great experience at our law school as a student before they graduate.
In a survey of our 2022 entering 1L class, 46% responded that an alumni recommendation was how they first became interested in CSU College of Law.
Assistant Dean Andelman knows a lot about law school admissions because she directed law school admissions at Case Western Reserve University School of Law for many years.
Ten years ago – long before she knew that she would be leading admissions efforts our law school – she was invited to be a guest at our annual Alumni Recognition Luncheon. She noted that most law schools would be thrilled to host an alumni event that draws 100-200 alumni. When she walked into the ballroom at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel and saw 1,000 CSU|LAW alumni and supporters in attendance, it made a huge impression on her, conveying how uniquely impactful a CSU|LAW degree is on our graduates.
We thank all of our enthusiastic alumni who volunteer each year to be Alumni Admissions Ambassadors.
