Monday Morning Message 1.14.19: Words of Kindness

Starting this week, each of my Monday Morning Messages will include a “Monday Moment” at the end of my message. It may be an interesting fact, quote, or a link to an interesting article, op-ed, editorial, or video that makes you think and/or laugh. It may or may not be related to the subject matter of my message. Just trying to keep my messages interesting and timely!

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” -Mother Teresa

Not a week goes by without my receiving positive emails and notes about our outstanding faculty and staff and about the Cleveland-Marshall experience. Below are some recent expressions of gratitude and appreciation I am very pleased to share.

To: Associate Dean and Professor Milena Sterio

"Thank you for another wonderful semester! I loved this class! I found it inspiring and captivating! After taking this class, I am POSITIVE that I want to work in international law in some capacity!” – 2L student

To: Associate Dean and Professor Michael Borden:

“You have done more than a fantastic job as Associate Dean… we had input into classes being offered, a wider selection of elective courses, and you actually walked the halls of the school. That last part was likely the most important. Marshall seemed more like home after that.” -Brendan Whitted ‘18

To: Professor Doron Kalir

"I wanted to let you know that your excitement for contracts, and teaching, showed through on day one and continued till the very end. Your passion for the law, and the respect and interest that you granted each of us really made you stand out as a "high-A teacher." Thank you for making this first semester great." – 1L student

"Thank you for being a great professor this semester. You played a large role in my first-year experience and I must say you made it very entertaining. You showed me you were human too when we discussed the Kavanaugh hearings as well as the synagogue shooting. Most importantly, you gave me practical legal advice." – Another 1L student

About Layla Davis, Secretary

“I thought you should see an example of the exceptional work that Layla Davis performs on behalf of our students. She's taking calls and responding to email at all hours -- in this instance it was at 9:30pm at night. Not only did she take the call in her off hours from a student whose computer crashed during her final exam, but she was proactive in coming up with a solution, which had to have eased the student's mind. Layla is a real treasure! ” -Associate Dean and Professor Carolyn Broering-Jacobs

About Cleveland-Marshall

Happy New Year from a former CMLAW student who started 2019 as an attorney! Years ago I got two gifts from my sister: a money jar, which stated on the side "Legal Funds" and a mug, which stated on the side "If your dreams don't scare you they aren't big enough."

Well, my dream of becoming a licensed attorney in America, when in 2005 I didn't even speak English was scary and of course my "Legal Fund" jar, even when filled, could not cover the law school tuition. But, the dream was there, the will to work hard to achieve it was there too, and then CMLAW took care of the rest.

I wanted you to know how grateful I am for the education I received. All the professors, librarians, and support staff who probably are "just" doing their job day in and day out, contributed in some way to my success of finishing law school (magna cum laude) and passing the bar in July 2018. CMLAW is truly a place where dreams come true. I am living proof of that. – Erika Molnar ‘18

It has been a truly rewarding experience for me to have been blessed with the many years of service to Cleveland- Marshall. I will truly miss you all, especially the very talented and unique students that have been recruited to become great attorneys ….It is my prayer that your diligence and dedication to making CMLAW the best law school will continue to flourish. I am very proud to say that I was a part of the best law school in the state of Ohio. God bless you always!” - Cassandra Baker on her December 2018 retirement as Library Associate in our Law Library after more than 30 years of service.
