“The welcome gift of To Kill a Mockingbird was a wonderful surprise. The personalized bonus of my name and admitted date with space to add additional milestone dates, truly makes this a special keepsake. ” - Admitted Student
“Thank you for the book and lovely letter. Because of Atticus Finch, at a young age I knew that I wanted to become an attorney and help become a voice for those who need it most.” – Admitted Student
“ Yesterday, I received the copy of To Kill a Mockingbird that you gifted me. Thank you for reminding me why I am so excited to study law.” – Admitted Student
This year, CSU Cleveland-Marshall College of Law celebrates 125 years of our enduring commitment to learning law and living justice since 1897, and 5o years of our Legal Career Opportunities Program (LCOP), a groundbreaking program that admits students whose applications, when viewed in their entirety, have demonstrated strong academic ability, perseverance, and promise for success, but whose standardized LSAT score does not reflect their greater potential.
Please join us on Friday, April 29, 2022, 5pm for a very special evening to celebrate these milestones and a unique opportunity to experience Harper Lee's classic American legal story, To Kill a Mockingbird, onstage at the Connor Palace Theater. The smash hit Broadway play is on tour for the first time, starring Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch. It’s been called the most successful American Play in Broadway history.
We’ll begin with a 5pm reception at Cibreo Privato, 1501 E 14th St, and then walk across the street to experience this nationally acclaimed play at 7:30pm.
This special event is an opportunity not only to celebrate our iconic history, but also to raise funds to support our Legal Career Opportunities Program (LCOP), Academic Support Program, Diversity Matters Programs, and Racial Justice Programs.
It is not a coincidence that we have chosen to celebrate our 125th Anniversary in conjunction with To Kill a Mockingbird’s arrival at Playhouse Square.
Readers of the New York Times Book Review recently chose the 1960 novel as the "the best book of the last 125 years." It’s also considered one of the greatest films of all time.
That’s why every admitted student receives To Kill A Mockingbird. On the inside cover of the book is their name, the date they were admitted to C|M|LAW, and additional lines for the date they will graduate law school, and another for when they pass the bar. It is accompanied by a personalized note from me that states:
“You hold in your hands what many believe to be the best novel ever written. To Kill a Mockingbird is the story of a crusading lawyer, Atticus Finch, and his fight for moral truth and racial justice. This iconic story has inspired many of our students to be lawyers. It is our gift to you because of the path you have chosen and because the story of Cleveland-Marshall is also an iconic story of justice and equality….
We are proud that you have met our high standards for admission and we would be even prouder to welcome you to our C|M|LAW family as we Learn Law & Live Justice.”
