“ The art of communication is the language of leadership.” – James Humes
“ Those enjoying winning streaks win twofold. They win not only the game but also the right to greater self-determination. They become masters of their own fate. That feeling of efficacy, of being in charge of circumstances, is the essence of confidence. Winning once or twice is encouraging, but winning continuously is empowering. – Rosabeth Moss Kanter
Moot Court March Madness! If law school moot court programs were seeded, our National Award-Winning C|M|Law Moot Court Programwould be seeded #1 in the nation! This past weekend our Moot Court Team won our third consecutive national moot court competition in the past 30 days! Unprecedented! Our nationally acclaimed program is designed to provide our students the opportunity to develop, refine, and showcase a critically important and valuable combination of brief-writing and appellate advocacy skills.
Our team of Rachel Byrnes, Madelyn Grant, and Aaren Host won the 2017 August Rendigs National Product Liability Moot Court Competition! Madelyn Grant also won Best Oralist! Remarkably, this is yet another team of first-year moot courters who won their very first competition! Once again they were coached by Professor Carolyn Broering-Jacobs.
They argued before 4 federal and 7 state supreme court judges from 8 states. This highly respected competition is open to 30 teams from ABA-accredited law schools, and is the only national moot court competition devoted to the complex field of products liability law. Last year our team of Kelly Wallenfelsz, Brandon Brown and Bobby Galinas placed second in the national competition.
We also owe a great debt of gratitude to our team's excellent Cleveland-Marshall alumni coaches, Ciera Parish '15 (Calfee), Michael Pelagalli '15 (Reminger), and Grayson Sieg '15 (Jones Day).
Professor Broering-Jacobs noted, “This is another example of Cleveland-Marshall alums paying it forward. Ciera, Mike, and Grayson were teammates in '13-14 and '14-15. As students, they were coached by other dedicated alums, and as soon as they graduated, they asked to start coaching themselves. So here they are -- second year associates with demanding jobs -- taking several nights a week to work with the team in preparation for their competition.”
And in the past 30 days……
- Emily Stolfer and DeAngelo LaVette went undefeated in every round to win the Frederick Douglass Moot Court National Championship. The Moot Court competition national advisor described DeAngelo LaVette as the "most decorated competitor in the competition's history." The C|M|Law team was coached by Brandon Cox ’12 and Theo Hudson ’12.
- Melissa Bilancini, Ben Fuchs, and Alanna Guy won the Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition besting 22 teams from across the country and earning the prize for Best Brief. Melissa Bilancini also earned the third-best Oralist Award. They were coached byProfessor Carolyn Broering- Jacobs.
