As we celebrate our 120th anniversary it is important to remember that we are more than a law school. We are part of a larger university,Cleveland State University, that serves as Cleveland’s premier urban higher education anchor institution. In 1969, we joined Cleveland’s new public university as its sixth college and we were renamed Cleveland-Marshall College of Law of Cleveland State University. (C|M|Law Finds Its Home at Cleveland State University)
One of the great advantages that C|M|Law offers is that we provide students the best of both worlds - a close-knit educational environment with small class sizes and personalized attention while drawing on the resources and opportunities of a larger university. The future of lawyering demands interdisciplinary training, and extensive experiential options with opportunities for development of essential workplace skills and entrepreneurial thinking. That’s why we must continue to enhance our partnerships with the larger University.
That is also why C|M|Law is raising funds for Radiance (May 11, 5:30-7:30pm at the CSU Student Center), CSU’s signature event in support of student scholarships. For the first time, we are coordinating our efforts with the University and reaching out to our C|M|Law donors noting that they now may designate their Radiance donation for C|M|Law scholarships. (note: Rick Chiricosta, Chairman and CEO of Medical Mutual of Ohio, will be presented with the President’s Medal, CSU’s highest non-academic honor at the Radiance event.)
We offer five dual-degree programs with other premier CSU Colleges such as the Monte Ahuja College of Business and the Levin College of Urban Affairs, allowing our students to earn both a J.D. and Master degree (C|M|Law Dual Degree Programs).
We are reaching out to CSU undergraduates and demonstrating the relevance of a legal education. That’s why we now offer an accelerated path to law school for CSU undergraduates (CSU Offers Accelerated Path to Law School ; C|M|Law and CSU Announce 3+3 Program).
We regularly partner with other CSU Colleges (C|M|Law and Levin College of Urban Affairs Partner on TEDx Salon) and our students participate in other CSU Colleges’ initiatives (C|M|Law Students Win Top Prizes at CSU StartupVikes Business Competition).
We encourage and support the involvement of our distinguished faculty with the University. A few examples: Professor Heidi Gorovitz Robertson and Professor Alan Weinstein hold joint faculty appointments at the Levin College of Urban Affairs; Professor John Plecnik is Interim Associate Dean of the College of Graduate Studies; Professor Brian Ray is a member of the University’s Path to 2020 Performance Management Team; Professor Debby Geier led the successful effort to implement the C|M|Law/CSU 3+3 Program; Professor Angelin Chang, Professor of Music in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Professor Joe Mead, Professor of Nonprofit Management/Public Administration in the Levin College of Urban Affairs, each hold a joint faculty appointment at C|M|Law.
So please donate to Radiance! Please contact Amy Miller, Director of Alumni and Donor Relations, at a.l.miller86null@csuohio.nulledu if you are interested in designating your Radiance donation to C|M|Law scholarships. It’s a win-win for C|M|Law and the University.
Have a great week.
