“I cannot thank you enough for your unwavering confidence in my abilities and passion for movement lawyering. This past year I have found myself feeling hopeless so often, but in moments like this I can actively feel the support of the C|M|LAW community behind me and know that as long as I work hard and hold fast to my principles that the possibilities of my future remain without boundaries. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.” - 2L Student
“I just wanted to share a little insight about what your letter meant to me. No one in my immediate family has attended college… Growing up the thought of attending law school was a fanciful daydream. Being able to attend and succeed at Cleveland-Marshall has been a real privilege…. as a first-gen, your letter meant far more to me than you will ever know.” – 2L Student
“I have been researching C|M|LAW, connecting with current students and alumni, and participating in virtual events to get a better feel for the school community…. C|M|LAW continues to make me feel valued.” – Admitted Student
As Dean, I am privy to emails every week throughout the year from students, faculty, staff, and alumni that my faculty and staff colleagues do not see or even know about unless I share them.
Over this past year, in the midst of anxiety and uncertainty, I have seen courage, empathy, resilience, and grace from every corner of our CSU Cleveland-Marshall community. I am happy to share the many positive emails I receive on a regular basis.
Faculty
Professor Matthew Green
“Professor Green, I am a student in your Employment Law class for the Spring 2021 semester… Even though it is online, your course is one of the best I have experienced at Cleveland-Marshall. To start, it is well structured….Keeping the course predictable puts learning the material at the forefront. The consistency of the discussion board, assignment, quiz structure is also helpful… More importantly, your discussions and assignments are thoughtful, engaging, direct, and fair. I find myself diving into the details of each module to answer questions and actually learning the material, without feeling like the professor is purposefully being 'meta', obtuse, or hiding the ball….The quizzes, discussion boards, and assignments ensure I need to know everything in the module and that is not an easy task. In other words, I think you are hitting the perfect balance here. Also, analogizing is a great tool for law students and lawyers. So, I appreciate that the fact patterns between your questions and the cases share strong similarities….The assignments are great short essay practice.” – 2L Student
Professor Angelin Chang
“Dear Angelin, thank you so much for taking the time to speak to my students today in Transactional Drafting: Issues in the Arts. Your knowledge of the music industry, and thus of transactional documents related to that industry, is so extensive…..You gave my students a very helpful overview of the industry…..You also shared some excellent tips at the end of your presentation… thank you for taking time away from your busy schedule to speak with my students today.” - Professor Emeritus Brian Glassman
Associate Deans Carolyn Broering-Jacobs and Jonathan Witmer-Rich
“I know all about the superhuman demands placed on ADs. Jonathan and Carolyn handle it with such grace that they make it look easy. We're lucky to have them.”- Professor Mark Sundahl
“I want to recognize Carolyn and Jonathan for all of the work that they do. Having glimpsed just a bit of all that they handle on a daily basis, they have my respect and my gratitude.” – Professor Carole Heyward
Professor Debby Geier
“Dear Prof. Geier, I am using your book to teach Intro to Tax this semester. It is a terrific book and I applaud your efforts to keep down costs to students.” – Professor David Pratt, Albany Law School
Professor Heidi Robertson
“Professor Robertson, I attended this evening's virtual event, and both you and Nick De Santis truly encouraged me and made me even more excited to be a part of CMLAW….Your enthusiasm is honestly contagious.” – Admitted Student
“Dear Heidi, your work as Director of Student Success has been extraordinary. I can't think of any greater contribution any of us has made to our students. I have been amazed by your dedication and hard work. “ – Professor Michael Borden
“Dear Heidi, the things that have made me proudest over the years have been several acts of selflessness, that mostly go without a lot of thanks or compensation, and this has been the lord's work.” – Professor Chris Sagers
“Dear Heidi, let me add my thanks to those who have already expressed their gratitude to you for your hard work on behalf of our students, especially in the bar mentoring program. You've helped me and others to be better mentors to those students, and a good part of their success is due to your efforts.” – Professor Peter Garlock
“Dear Heidi, thanks so much for all that you have done - and continue to do - for our students. Though many of them were not aware of your direct involvement in - and responsibility for - their success, it was your drive for excellence, your enthusiasm, and your relentless pursuit of active supervision that led us to the 93% mark, and beyond.” – Professor Doron Kalir
“Dear Heidi, we owe you a great debt for the work you've done to support our students' bar success over these many years. Thank you for all that you've done (and, I'm sure, will continue to do) for us and for our students.” – Associate Dean Carolyn Broering-Jacobs
Staff
Assistant Dean for Admissions Barbara Andelman
“Dean Andelman, I want to express my eternal gratitude to you for your wisdom, kindness, and graciousness throughout this application process. I will never forget your willingness and selflessness to aid me in countless ways from the very first day we met. I also want to emphasize that, regardless of the decision that you and your committee make regarding my application, I am forever grateful for this experience. The opportunity to compete for admission has been a life-changing blessing that has, with no exaggeration, made me a better human being. I am deeply indebted to you for helping facilitate that experience.” – Prospective Student
“Dean Andelman, I wanted to thank you for your help and your comments at the law school forum on Saturday. Your presentation was definitely the most helpful and clearly distinguished Cleveland-Marshall School of Law from the competition.” – Prospective Student
“I just wanted to reach out to you to thank you for the book and lovely letter I received in the mail today… with To Kill a Mockingbird being one of my favorites, I know exactly what I will be reading next. Because of …Atticus Finch, at a young age I knew that I wanted to become an attorney and help become a voice for those who need it most. I just want to say how excited I am to be a part of the Cleveland-Marshall Law family and I wake up each morning, thrilled that I am a day closer to continuing my education at this beautiful institution.” – Admitted Student
“I am extremely humbled to have been accepted into Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Becoming an attorney has been my goal since before starting my college career…. "Learn Law. Live Justice" has a great ring to it! I also wanted to thank you for the copy of To Kill A Mocking Bird. I opened the package this evening and I haven't put it down since.” - Admitted Student
Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services Sarah Beznoska
“Dear Sarah, I just wanted to thank you… Your emails are a delight - short, concise, well-written, and to the point. They're like a breath of fresh air - always teaching me something new, with only five minutes of reading. No re-reading required. I know we usually don't tend to praise each other's work, but maybe we should start.” – Professor Doron Kalir
Amy Burchfield, Head of Library Research & Instructional Services
“Dean Fisher, I just wanted to let you know that Amy Burchfield of the law library lectured to my labor law class …. tonight via zoom. As in the past, she did an excellent job and assisted my class in how to do some basic legal research.”– Adjunct Professor Alan Zmija
Jaime Gay, Assistant Director of Student and Career Services
“Jaime, since you were so involved in my job search…. I wanted to thank you for taking so much time helping me these past few months. Coming from a huge school like Ohio State, I am very used to taking on the job search alone without any real help from advisors. I’m so appreciative that you helped me on every step of way.” – 2L Student
“Jaime, this isn't a question or cry for help (like it is so often when I reach out to you), but I wanted to tell you that I HAVE A JOB FOR THE SUMMER! …I'm so excited, and so deeply grateful for everything you do for me and other students to help us be successful. It means the world to have you there for guidance every step of the way, and I'm so glad you chose to come to C|M|LAW because, frankly, I don't know what we would do without you!” – 2L Student
“I can say, without doubt, that Jaime is a rock star in our office! She's detail-oriented on every single document review, she's substantive, thoughtful and patient in meetings to help students identify their strengths and tell their professional narratives, and we hear every day from a student who got a job thanks to her work. She's critical to our students' success, and affectionately known by many, I've heard, as the "2L fan favorite" - for very good reason!” – Assistant Dean Sarah Beznoska
My thanks to our extraordinary faculty and staff for your dedication to our students and to each other!
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay Committed to Living Justice.
Have a great day. Have a great week.
