Monday Morning Message 1.27.25 The True Measure of Success
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
“As much as talent counts, effort counts twice.” ― Angela Duckworth
“It's about seeing things in a new way. When people...change to a growth mindset, they change from a judge-and-be-judged framework to a learn-and-help-learn framework. Their commitment is to growth, and growth takes plenty of time, effort, and mutual support.” ― Carol Dweck, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success
Monday Morning Message 12.23.24 Just One Request Before Your Much-Deserved Winter Break!
The Monday Morning Message will resume in mid-January ….. Just one request before your inbox gets a much-deserved winter break!
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.” —Melody Beattie
Each of our students is writing a new chapter in their lives. But it’s not a solo journey. All of us have a role to play as co-authors.
Please be a co-author of a student’s next chapter by making a year-end gift to support our students.
Monday Morning Message 12.16.24 The Power of a Second Chance
“There are few things as powerful as the joy of someone who got a second chance and found their purpose.” - Kim Reynolds
“I want to thank Cleveland State Law School and congratulate and thank the past and present CSULAW students and staff who have made this possible. With the help of this team… expedited pardon applications jump to the front of the line to have their cases go before the Ohio Parole Board, and then to me for final consideration…. Cleveland State is so very important to not only Northeast Ohio but to the entire state." -Ohio Governor Mike DeWine
Monday Morning Message 12.9.24 Our Fingerprints
“Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch.” - Judy Blume
Not a week goes by when I don’t receive a positive message about the extraordinary teaching of our faculty. I’m pleased to share some emails I’ve received over the past year. Our faculty’s fingerprints will never fade from the lives they’ve touched.
Professor Emeritus Peter Garlock
Monday Morning Message 12.2.24 Change the Way You Look at Things. The Things You Look at Will Change.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at, change.” – Wayne Dyer
Final exams begin today and continue until December 12. This morning’s message is to our students, particularly our first-year students who are experiencing their first law school final exams.
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at can change. So my advice is to change the way you look at the pressure of final exams. As tennis legend Billie Jean King once said, “Pressure is a privilege - it only comes to those who earn it.”
Monday Morning Message 11.25.24 Gratitude
“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you….” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
As Thanksgiving approaches this week,
I’m thankful for:

Tuesday Morning Message 11.12.24 Our 2024 Hall of Fame Celebration!
Yesterday was Veteran’s Day, so this message is being posted Tuesday Morning.
“Thank you again for the honor of being inducted in the CSU Law Hall of Fame…. It was clearly a "Top Shelf" event! The food was amazing and the program was great. I loved getting my award from Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart. This was a well-planned and well-attended event.” - Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams ‘90
Monday Morning Message 11.4.24 Reflections on Tomorrow's Presidential Election
“In our finest hours...the soul of the country manifests itself in an inclination to open our arms rather than to clench our fists; to look out rather than to turn inward; to accept rather than to reject.” ― Jon Meacham, The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels
I have five thoughts I’d like to share about tomorrow’s election.
First, for our country to begin to heal and for our next President to succeed, we can ill afford a sore loser or an arrogant winner.
