What motivated you to attend law school?
In 2013 I was awarded the opportunity to participate in a fellowship at the International Criminal Court in The Netherlands and in that building it was immediately and undeniably evident how powerful and necessary the law was. For so many people, the law is their only recourse. I applied to law school when I returned home.
Tell us about your legal work experience (law clerk, externship, internship, etc.).
In my previous positions in the public sector, I routinely engaged in legal research and analysis, particularly in the areas of administrative law, public finance, local government law & home rule, and public records. During law school I completed an externship with the Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law (HEAL) Team at Community Legal Aid Services. HEAL is a medical-legal partnership that assists individuals and families with legal problems that may be interfering with their ability to become and/or remain healthy. I have stayed on as a HEAL volunteer and have worked on housing, probate, education, expungement, landlord/tenant, and family law matters.
What are the best qualities you will bring to a legal employer?
I will bring to an employer two decades of diverse professional experience, from which I developed confidence, resilience, and patience, as well as a reputation for excellence and integrity.
What are your goals for your legal career?
I believe strongly in the premise of leaving things better than I found them – whether that be systems, processes, or people. Generally speaking, most people that are involved with the legal system are likely not having the best day – my goal is to improve things as much as possible.
