A panel discussion with Brett Barragate '96 , Jones Day, Co-Leader, Banking, Finance & Securities Practice;  Michael Haas '94, Latham & Watkins, Global Co-Chair, Real Estate Practice; and Michael Fishman '95, Greenberg Traurig, Vice Chairman, Chicago office. Moderated by Dean Lee Fisher.

They will discuss their fascinating careers in real estate law, real estate finance, banking, private equity, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, workouts, and bankruptcy and restructurings.

Brett Barragate

Brett Barragate ‘96 is the co-leader of Jones Day's Banking, Finance & Securities Practice. He represents lenders and borrowers in all aspects of transactional and commercial financing-related matters, including in connection with senior and subordinated debt facilities, the purchase and sale of financial assets, and restructuring and bankruptcy matters related to financial assets. Brett's financial institution clients include Jefferies, JPMorgan Chase, KeyBank, and Wells Fargo. He also represents a number of private equity firms, hedge funds, and corporations in financing-related matters, including Cliffs Natural Resources, HD Supply, NACCO Industries and its affiliated entities, Sherwin-Williams, Timken Steel, and WL Ross & Co. and its portfolio companies.

Michael Haas

Michael Haas ’94, Global Co-Chair of the Real Estate Practice and partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins, is a recognized market leader in real estate private equity and finance. Michael represents private equity firms, asset managers, and real estate companies on sophisticated, market-defining transactions. He represents clients on complex real estate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, workouts, and restructurings. He negotiates joint venture agreements and large portfolio transactions. He also counsels clients in relation to distressed assets and workouts.

Michael Fishman

Michael Fishman ‘95 is Vice Chairman of Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office. Michael focuses his practice on real estate, real estate finance, private equity and real estate fund formation. His clients include institutional investors, investment advisors, public and private real estate companies, REITs and financial institutions. Michael has worked to form domestic and cross-border real estate funds and joint ventures, and regularly represents lenders on real estate projects throughout the United States and globally. In addition, he has experience with mezzanine finance, mortgage finance, lease finance and loan defeasance transactions. Michael regularly advises clients with regard to the acquisition, disposition, leasing and management of multi-family, industrial, office, retail and hotel properties in the United States and globally.
