Commencement 2018

Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University announced that its 2018 graduating class achieved a 95.5% employment rate 10 months after graduation.

This is the highest employment rate for Cleveland-Marshall College of Law since the Great Recession hit in 2007. It follows on the heels of the state-high 93% pass rate for the July 2018 Ohio bar examination.

"This has been a year of rising success for C|M|LAW,” said Dean Lee Fisher. “We are so proud of the achievements of our graduates. They are resilient, hard-working and determined, and their bar pass rate and employment rate reflect those characteristics."

In addition to the 95% total employment rate, more than 80% of the class is employed in full-time, long-term jobs that require bar passage or for which the law degree is an advantage.

"These employment outcomes are the result of focused effort by our graduates, supported by dedicated faculty, staff, and alumni champions," said Heather DiFranco, Director of the Office of Career Strategy & Employment. "We believe that our alumni network is one of the most committed in the country, and they show up every year to help our graduates make connections and secure employment."

Beyond the school's strong alumni network, Cleveland-Marshall students benefit from a longstanding commitment to practical education, procured through the law school’s clinics and externship programs; industry-aligned academic centers offering hand-on experience in Criminal Law, Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection, Health Law and Policy, and Space Law; and innovative “Pop-up Practicums” that give students opportunities to do actual short term work in timely legal issues and justice reform. Additionally, the school’s Academic Success program, which includes a partnership with the commercial bar preparation program, BARBRI, focuses students on career success throughout law school.

The high employment numbers are the latest in a string of high points for the law school. The July bar passage was the C|M|LAW’s second consecutive state high, and the 2018 entering class size increased by 30 percent. The school recently launched the P. Kelly Tompkins Leadership and Law Program, marking it as one of only a handful in the country offering comprehensive core leadership training for law students.

Additional details about the Class of 2018 employment outcomes are available at the bottom of the page. If you would like to learn more about joining the alumni champion program, please contact the Office of Career Strategy & Employment at 216-687-6871 or careernull@law.csuohio.nulledu.
