"Together we will define our own future, and not let the future define us.
Together, we will expand our reach as both anchor and beacon, working to grow our already impressive brand.
Together, we will continue to serve our community with our unique mix of high quality, affordable, and accessible academic programs that transform lives.
Together we will create tomorrow’s campus experience so that future students can experience the full impact of “engaged learning”.
Together, we will build a “best in class” research and teaching university known for its groundbreaking cradle-to-career programs that expand the boundaries of academic creativity and innovation.
And together, we will nurture and grow the incredible bond between our faculty, staff, and students that makes CSU so special.
Let’s dream big - together."
-Cleveland State University President Harlan M. Sands, Presidential Investiture, October 5, 2018
I had the privilege to attend the Investiture of CSU President Harlan Sands on Friday afternoon. It was an exciting afternoon culminating in President Sands’ inspiring Investiture Address.
As we celebrate our 121st anniversary, it is important to remember that we are more than a law school. We are part of a larger university, Cleveland State University, that serves as Cleveland’s premier urban higher education anchor institution. In 1969, we joined Cleveland’s new public university as its sixth college and we were renamed Cleveland-Marshall College of Law of Cleveland State University. (C|M|Law Finds Its Home at Cleveland State University)
CSU is a university on the rise, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law is a law school on the rise, and Cleveland is a city on the rise. The university’s rising tide began with CSU Presidents Emeriti Michael Schwartz and Ron Berkman, and we are poised to rise to even greater heights with the dynamic leadership of President Sands.
President Sands understands that the future of higher education, and the future of legal education, demands interdisciplinary and experiential opportunities for development of essential workplace skills and entrepreneurial thinking. That’s why we will continue to draw on the resources and strengths of our larger university.
That is also why our Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (C|M|LAW) Hall of Fame is so important to who we are. Our Hall of Fame is a unique opportunity, in the words of President Sands, to “dream big-together.” Our annual Hall of Fame Celebration is a special opportunity to honor those who dreamed big, and through their hard work, talent, and determination, achieved their dreams.
Please join us on Friday, October 26, 5:30-8pm for our 2nd Annual C|M|LAW Hall of Fame Celebration. honoring our 2018 C|M|LAW Hall of Fame Honorees.
This is also our single best opportunity this year to raise funds for much-needed student scholarships. If you are thinking about supporting us, but usually wait until the end of the year, I respectfully ask you to give now instead, and to join us for this fantastic event if you can.
Please make a contribution or pledge this week to our October Hall of Fame celebration of an amount ranging from $120 to $12,000. Below are the different levels of support for our Hall of Fame Celebration. Please visit csulaw.org/hof_registration to purchase tickets or sponsorships.
