“If you hire people just because they can do a job, they’ll work for your money. But if you hire people who believe what you believe, they’ll work for you with blood and sweat and tears.” - Simon Sinek
When I served in public office, a necessary part of each election campaign was raising funds. I’ll never forget what one donor said to me as he handed me his financial contribution. He said, “is this ‘hello’, or is this ‘goodbye’?” He observed that most candidates courted him until he made his financial contribution; but after that, he didn’t hear from the candidate again.
Our message to our students is ‘hello’ not only when they enter C|M|LAW, but also when they graduate. We don’t say ‘goodbye’. We are committed to the lifelong success of our students. We are their law school for life.
That’s why from day one, we reach out to our students and help them prepare not only for an excellent legal education, but also for a fulfilling career.
We not only teach substantive law but also focus on the practice-ready skills of critical thinking, practical problem solving, initiative, creativity, empathy, and teamwork.
Employers often tell us that what distinguishes our graduates from other law schools’ graduates is their passion, purpose, and work ethic.
You may recall that I shared a Monday Morning Message last month that encouraged our alumni and friends to "Hire Grit. Hire C|M|LAW." The response from employers was very gratifying, but we still have many bright, talented, and gritty Class of 2017 graduates who are still seeking full-time post-graduate employment.
We are just two weeks away from March 15, 2018, which is the date by which our graduates need to be working in order to be counted as employed for the reporting that we are required to provide to the American Bar Association (which, in turn, is used by a variety of news outlets, including US News, to rank law schools).
The data is important, but lifting up and supporting our graduates is even more important.
Please take a moment to look through our C|M|LAW Resume Book. Please consider who might be a good candidate for someone you know who has a hiring need, or who might be a good addition to your own practice on either a full-time or part-time basis. Then please reach out to those graduates and offer your advice and assistance.
If you have questions, please contact Heather DiFranco (h.d.difranconull@csuohio.nulledu) in our Office of Career Planning at 216-687-6871 or careernull@law.csuohio.nulledu
Hire a C|M|LAW graduate. Say ‘Hello’.
Have a great week.
