LGBT Rights in Ohio
Special Guests: Alana Jochum and Alex Shanks, Equality Ohio.
On Monday, March 20, Alana Jochum and Alex Shanks of Equality Ohio will visit the law school to discuss issues surrounding the rights of LGBT individuals in Ohio. Equality Ohio is a non-profit, Ohio-based organization that advocates in favor of expanding legal protections for the LGBT community under state and local laws. Ms. Jochum is Equility Ohio's Executive Director and a Cleveland-Marshall College of Law graduate, and Mr. Shanks serves as Field and Project Director for the organization. They will discuss the state of LGBT legal rights in Ohio and Equality Oho's efforts to advance those rights with a specific emphasis on the laws (and lack thereof) impacting Ohio's transgender community. They will also offer advice to students who may be interested in pursuing a career in advocacy work related to LBGT rights or other areas.
