BLSA Regional 2017

For the second consecutive year, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA) was the major winner at the association’s Midwest Regional Convention.  The C|M|LAW chapter was again named Midwest Regional Chapter of the Year and won the Midwest Regional Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition.

Hosting the regional convention in Cleveland for the first time in four decades, the Convention Coordinator and current C|M|LAW BLSA Vice President Kelynn Carter was elected as the next Chair of the Midwest Regional BLSA.  At the culminating awards gala, C||M|LAW BLSA was awarded Regional Chapter of the Year and qualifies as a finalist for mid-sized National Chapter of the Year, having won both honors in 2016.

As part of the convention, seven schools participated in the Midwest Regional Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition at the Carl B. Stokes Federal Courthouse.   C|M|LAW’s team of DeAngelo LaVette and Emily Stolfer, coached by Brandon Cox '12 and Theo Hudson '12, won the Regional Championship and was awarded Best Respondent's Brief.  The duo will move on to compete at the National Convention in Houston, after finishing fourth at the national competition in 2016.
