Monday Morning Message 12.5.2016

“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” -Cynthia Ozick, American writer

From time to time, I’ll share some of the inspiring notes that come my way recognizing the tremendous work of our students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

Professor Candice Hoke

“Professor Hoke, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for teaching Agency and Partnerships so well last spring. I recently got a new job at a corporate law firm that deals with a lot of partnerships and LLCs, and having background knowledge on the various types of business organizations from that class has made the transition so much easier! Also, the first two weeks of my corporations class this semester was all review because the professor started with agency and partnership law.” -Maureen Wallace

Sarah Beznoska, Assistant Director, Career Planning

“Sarah, I just wanted to reach out and thank you for your efforts in my job search. …..I was offered and accepted the job at Schneider Smeltz Spieth Bell …..It’s a great position in the business practice group and I feel beyond fortunate to fill it. All along the way you were always prompt and helpful and I really appreciate everything you did to help me. Hope you are doing well and that the office of career services is thriving. If ever you need to point to an example of doing well in law school, not getting a great job but working hard, sticking with it, and finally lucking out, you’re free to use my story. Thanks again!” – James Gianfagna, Schneider Smeltz Spieth Bell

Gina Huffman, Assistant Director of Admission

“Dear Gina, I really enjoyed meeting you at the MINK (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) Law Fair …and learning about Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Our conversation was certainly one of the more memorable ones from that day, and not just because we share a name. I appreciate that you took your time to answer my questions and would definitely like to apply.” -Gina Dearth Frazier

Laura Ray, Outreach & Instructional Services Librarian
“This tech discussion gives me the opportunity to give a shout out to our law librarians, in particular, Laura Ray and Amy Burchfield, who do advanced tech presentations in my third semester writing courses (as well as basic tech presentations in my 1L courses). Laura has done a magnificent job two weeks in a row in my Scholarly Writing class, introducing the students to the resources available on the law library website, as well as explaining some of the enhanced features of Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law.” -Professor Karin Mika

Amy Burchfield, Head of Research & Instructional Services, Law Library

“Dean Fisher: Currently, as an adjunct instructor (and graduate of CSU Law), I teach a course in labor law to undergraduate and graduate students at the CSU College of Business. As part of the course, I have arranged to take the graduate students to the law library to obtain legal research training. Earlier this week we received the training - which as usual was excellent. I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to Amy Burchfield of your library staff who continues to provide the training. Her outstanding efforts should be noted. They have contributed to a much better education for my students.” - Adjunct Professor Alan Zmija

Tom Hurray, Evening/Weekend Supervisor, Law Library

“ Dear Lauren, I would like to register a word of praise for the law library's evening and weekend supervisor, Tom Hurray. I came down to my office yesterday (Sunday) specifically to write an email that I had to get out, and for which I needed materials in my office. Unfortunately, I could not access email all afternoon. Of course no tech person was at the law school or university on Sunday to help me out. After a good deal of trial and error, Tom found a way to enable me to access my email using one of the library computers and a search engine I had no idea even existed. I am extremely grateful to Tom for his effort yesterday, which enabled me to complete the task I urgently needed to do. Let me add that over the many years I have known Tom, he has provided me a good deal of library assistance on a variety of matters, especially on weekends when I often come to the office, and always with good cheer. He is a most valuable asset to our library.”  -Professor Peter Garlock

Please continue to share your praise of the great work of our students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Have a great day!
