Patron Code of Conduct

The primary mission of the Cleveland State University Law Library is to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the Law School and the Cleveland State University community. The Law Library pledges to provide an atmosphere conducive to study, reading, and the legitimate use of library materials and services.

When the law library is open after 8pm, only CSU affiliates may swipe in between 8pm and closing.

The Law Library reserves the right to ask library users to provide identification, and, upon request, library users are expected to comply. Persons who act in a manner inconsistent with library rules and expected conduct may be asked to leave the library, and violators may be subject to action by appropriate enforcement authority.

The following rules apply to all that enter the Law Library. We ask that you notify a staff member if you perceive that there has been a violation of these rules.

  1. Individuals may not extensively use library facilities without demonstrating engagement in research or study. Loitering and soliciting are prohibited.
  2. All patrons must abide by posted hours. No patrons are permitted in the building before opening  or after the posted closing.
  3. Food and beverages are permitted, except in the Computer Lab.
  4. Only Cleveland State University Law students, faculty, and staff may use study rooms. Prior reservations, made via the library’s online study room reservation system, are required before using study rooms.
  5. The Learning Commons and Computer Lab are for the sole use of Cleveland State University Law students, faculty, and staff.
  6. Signs indicate quiet zones in the library; these zones are reserved exclusively for quiet study.
  7. Loud conversations and cellphone calls are not permitted in quiet zones.
  8. Conversations are permitted in designated collaboration zones within the library. The Ohio Room and Learning Commons are two designated collaboration zones.
  9. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal possessions. Do not leave your belongings, especially backpacks and laptops, unattended.
  10. In order to respect the academic environment of the Law Library, children under the age of 15 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. The accompanying adult is responsible for the child's conduct. The library staff will ask a child displaying disruptive or unsafe behavior and the accompanying adult to leave the Law Library.
  11. Blocking access, making disruptive noises, using abusive or foul language, threatening or harassing others, or otherwise causing a dangerous or disruptive situation is prohibited in the library.
  12.  Library equipment may not be unplugged to accommodate non-library equipment.
  13.  Only designated service animals are permitted in the library.
  14.  In accordance with Cleveland State University’s tobacco-free policy, tobacco use in any form is not permitted in the library. The use of e-cigarettes is likewise prohibited.

No person will be denied opportunity for employment or education or be subjected to discrimination in any project, program, or activity because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, handicap, or veteran’s status.
