Monday Morning Message 12.23.19 Co-Author The Next Chapter
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.” —Melody Beattie
Each of our students is writing a new chapter in their lives.
But it’s not a solo journey.
All of us – faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, and friends- have a role to play as co-authors.
Please be a co-author of a student’s next chapter by making a year-end tax deductible gift to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Please donate here: Co-Author a Student's Next Chapter
It would mean a lot to us.
Our mission, Learn Law. Live Justice., has never been more important.
Believe in C|M|LAW. Please Give Now.
Monday Morning Message 12.16.19 You Make All the Difference
“ Words cannot express the gratitude I have for the scholarship you all have so kindly decided to offer me…You all have given me the opportunity to fulfill my destiny and for that I am forever grateful! My son will one day be able to say that his mother was given a chance despite financial hardship, and this blessing can teach him that if you dream big enough, no obstacle will be big enough.” -1L Student
Monday Morning Message 12.9.19 Serenity Prayer for Final Exams
“Well, tests ain’t fair. Those that study have an unfair advantage.” – Allan Dare Pearce, Paris in April
“It’s not that I’m that smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” – Albert Einstein
Final exams begin later this week and continue until December 20. We provide coffee and food outside my office every day during exams, but I also want to offer my final exam secret sauce- a prayer, some tips, and 22 uplifting songs.
Monday Morning Message 12.2.19 Help a Student's Dream Come True
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”– Harriet Tubman
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. It would mean a lot to us if you would take a moment tomorrow, or anytime before the end of the year, to support the opportunity for a student to achieve their dream of making a difference in the world. Believe in C|M|LAW. Please Give Now.
Monday Morning Message 11.25.19 Seek First to Understand
“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” – Stephen Covey, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
As Thanksgiving approaches later this week, I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional work of our law students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and for the support and leadership of CSU President Harlan Sands, CSU Provost Jianping Zhu, CSU Board Chair David Gunning ’94, Board of Visitors Chair Kelly Tompkins ‘81, and Alumni Association President John Calabrese ’12.

Monday Morning Message 11.18.19 Skate Where The Puck is Going
“I skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been.” – Wayne Gretzky
We pride ourselves in our ability to skate to where the puck is going – to adapt our curriculum and programs to meet fast-changing market demands. I am proud to announce that our newly created, fully online Master of Legal Studies in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy is officially accepting applications for spring 2020. This degree is designed for anyone who wants to understand the significant legal and business risks posed by cybersecurity, data security and data privacy.
Monday Morning Message 11.11.19 He Could Taste His Future
“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.”
― Dr. Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
On this Veterans Day, I’m thinking about my father-in-law, the legendary West Side Cleveland City Councilman Michael J. Zone, who was a prisoner of war in WWII.
Monday Morning Message 11.4.19 It's Never about the Setback. It's Always About How We Respond.
“The impulse to hide bad news and instead offer rosy forecasts has a long history….denial is not inevitable, even if it is always a temptation. Dialogue- the capacity to discuss the undiscussable- is the antidote, and confidence makes it possible….” - Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Confidence
“Companies fail because success is viewed as deserved rather than hard earned…. People begin to believe that success will continue almost no matter what the organization decides to do, or not to do.” - Jim Collins, How the Mighty Fail
Monday Morning Message 10.28.19 Anything is Possible
“God, grant me the Serenity to accept that pursuing my dream is living a few years of my life like most people won’t….so I can spend the rest of my life like most people can’t.
The Courage to trust in my skills and have an unshakeable belief in myself.
And the Wisdom to know that nothing is impossible… and anything is possible.”
-Dean’s Serenity Prayer for First Year CSU Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (C|M|LAW) students
Last Friday evening, we had the special opportunity to celebrate our iconic past and invest in our exciting future.
